IASA and CEEC / ISEL develop joint theoretical and practical training in order to provide engineering and architecture professionals with the skills necessary to perform their duties, regardless of their previous academic background and which is usually very varied.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Objectives

This course is taught by highly qualified specialists with great business experience and aims to contribute to the training of qualified technicians in the field of inspection and diagnosis, rehabilitation and reinforcement of buildings, complementing their training and contributing to the quality of the respective interventions.

It is also intended that the trainees acquire new knowledge in the field of design and work, that they develop skills that allow them to identify and diagnose the pathology, develop techniques for rehabilitation and reinforcement of buildings; in its non-structural and structural components.

The development of this course fits in with the objectives and mission of both promoters.

The Specialization in Inspection and Diagnosis, Rehabilitation and Reinforcement of Buildings is aimed at technicians linked to Civil Engineering, Architecture and Engineering of other specialties in the sector of construction and rehabilitation of buildings, working in City Councils, Public Organizations and construction companies. Construction, Inspection and Design; in general, professionals in the sector needing complementary training in the area of specialization; students.

STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE AND SCHEDULE

Calendar

The specialization course in Inspection and Diagnosis, Rehabilitation and Reinforcement of Buildings consists of 3 modules:

Module 1 - Inspection and Diagnostic Methodologies (4 hours + 2 hours)

- Inspection and Diagnostic Methodologies in Masonry and Concrete Structures (4 hours)

- Experimental class (optional - 2 hours)

Module 2 - Masonry: Performance and compatibility requirements (10 hours + 4 hours):

- Masonry Rehabilitation Techniques of Old Buildings (6 hours)

- Structural Rehabilitation: Case Studies (4 hours)

- Technical Visits (optional - 4 hours)

Module 3 - Reinforced Concrete: Performance and compatibility requirements (12 hours):

- Repair and Reinforcement of Concrete Structures (9 hours)

- Structural Rehabilitation: Case Studies (3 hours)

Program

Module 1 - Construction inspection and testing. Diagnostic methodologies

17 and 22 May 2021, 6 hours

Conventions / terminology and diagnosis.

Inspection methodologies and non-destructive tests: structural / constructive survey; survey of visible anomalies; quality control of execution; deformation monitoring; summary assessment of reinforcement corrosion.

Qualification of agents.

Experimental class (this class will be conditioned to the state of the pandemic by COVID-19).

Module 2 - Masonry: Performance and compatibility requirements

18-21 May 2021, 14 hours

Rehabilitation Techniques for Masonry of Old Buildings

Approaches, criteria and techniques for repair, consolidation and reinforcement.

Some practical examples.

Structural Rehabilitation: Case Studies

Presentation of design, calculation and detailing of cases, including solutions in which the existing façade wall may be part of the final resistant structure.

Repair and consolidation of masonry walls.

The problems of reusing masonry walls.

Rehabilitation of resistant masonry buildings - presentation of practical cases.

Technical visits to rehabilitation works (these visits are conditioned to the state of the pandemic by COVID-19).

Vasco Appleton (A2P) - 8am

Module 3 - Reinforced Concrete: Performance and compatibility requirements

24-27 May 2021, 12 hours

Repair and Reinforcement of Concrete Structures

Evaluation of structural behavior.

Design and dimensioning of the reinforcement.

Design of connections.

Reinforcement of concrete structures (with design examples): by adding exterior reinforcement; with jacketing; exterior prestressing; fungiform slabs when punching; seismic.

Practical presentation.

Structural Rehabilitation: Case Studies

Presentation of practical cases.

José Paulo Costa (STAP) - 3h

The various modules will be developed by renowned specialists in the field of rehabilitation who put their know-how into practice every day. The summary curriculum of each of the trainers can be viewed below.

Carlos Mesquita -  Oz, Ltd.

Degree in civil engineering, structural profile, by Instituto Superior Técnico. Effective member of the Order of Engineers. Since 1994 at Oz, Lda, conception and direction of studies in the field of activity of the firm, involving inspections and non-destructive or little intrusive tests "in-situ", in recent and old constructions (buildings, bridges, special structures), projects conservation / rehabilitation, etc. Author of several articles in different engineering publications, related to case studies and diagnostic methodologies. Managing Partner / Technical Director at Oz - Diagnostics, survey and quality control in structures and foundations, Lda.

José Paulo Costa - Stap, SA

Degree in Civil Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico. Partner at Stap, SA since 1996, where he has held several management and administration positions. He has extensive experience and knowledge in the field of diagnosis and structural and constructive rehabilitation of recent and old buildings, and foundations. He dominates different specialized technologies, current and innovative, of intervention on site in the area of repair, protection and reinforcement of structures and buildings.

Luís Pedro Mateus - Consultant

Degree in Civil Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in 2002. Master in Construction from IST in 2006. Doctor in Civil Engineering from IST in 2019. Between 2002 and 2014 he collaborated in the companies of the Stap group, companies specialized in structural, constructive and artistic performance of old and recent constructions, where he performed the functions of directing the work at Stap, and directing production and management at the company Monumenta. Teaching collaborator at Instituto Superior Técnico, since 2016, in the disciplinary area of Pathology and Construction Rehabilitation. Specialist Member of the Order of Engineers, in Construction Management and Management. Member of ICOMOS Portugal, where he is currently a member of the Fiscal Council. Member of Gecorpa - Grémio do Património. Develops consultancy activity in the design and construction phases in the rehabilitation of old buildings.

Nuno Travassos - A2P Consult, Lda

Degree in Civil Engineering, Structures Branch, by the Instituto Superior Técnico of the Technical University of Lisbon and Master in Structural Engineering by the same institution. Structural Specialist by Ordem dos Engenheiros, 2014. Partner at A2P Consult project company. He published several technical works in magazines and proceedings of congresses and co-authored several structural projects, both for buildings and viaducts.

Vasco Appleton - A2P Consult, Lda

Graduated in Civil Engineering by the Instituto Superior Técnico of the Technical University of Lisbon and Master in Construction by the same institution. Author of several articles, reports and technical documents in the area of construction, conservation and rehabilitation of the built heritage, and co-author of several structural projects, both for new buildings and for the rehabilitation of buildings. Invited Assistant Professor at the Portuguese Catholic University and the Lusophone University of Humanities and Technologies and managing partner of the A2P Consult project company, with which he collaborates since 2001.

Registrations can be made by module, the value of which is as follows:

Module 1 - Construction inspection and testing. Diagnostic methodologies:

Without experimental class, 4h: 80 € + VAT
With experimental class, 6h: 130 € + VAT

 

Module 2 - Masonry: Performance and compatibility requirements:

Without technical visit, 10h: 200 € + VAT
With technical visit, 14h: 300 € + VAT

Module 3 - Reinforced Concrete: Performance and compatibility requirements

Lessons, 12h: 240 € + VAT

 

Trainees who enroll in the 3 modules benefit from a 10% discount (regardless of whether they enroll in class

experimental and / or technical visit). Additional discount for members of partner organizations and students.
